Grow Your Dental Practice by Using a Dental Consultant, with Cynthia Levy of Dental Sleep Today

There are many different aspects to a dental practice that need attention and management, especially with the little amount of business training dentists have.  There are many issues that need to be addressed in a dental practice and Cynthia Levy's approach is to go in and look at the entire practice when serving as a business consultant.

As one of the founders of Dental Sleep Today, Cynthia's background in dental consulting is the result of helping her husband, Dr. Mark Levy's dental practice.  Using a much broader focus, Cynthia looks at a practice's marketing efforts, their staffing and their lack of attention to business detail, eventually setting them up on systems that can help their efficiency.

As a very hands-on consultant, Cynthia works very closely with the staff and always tries to have a point person to help implement the changes.  Having learned from the consultants her husband has used in the past, Cynthia knows what makes a good consultant and what makes a bad consultant.  Many times, she notes, a consultant will work with a practice and nothing gets implemented or changed, frustrating both the dentist and the consultant.

Cynthia takes a very critical look at a practice's online presence and works with companies that have extensive web design and SEO experience.  She has also worked with a radio consultant for five years, as radio marketing can be used very effectively for certain procedures.  Cynthia says that mailers are making a resurgence and for some dentists, she recommends a consistent mail campaign.

Finding that dentists don't market consistently or long enough, Cynthia says that "if you don't market consistently, keep the money in your pocket because it won't work."  She recommends dedicating a specific amount of money in the budget to marketing.

Having a clean, up to date and professional environment is very important and Cynthia has found that dentists often wait too long to ask for help.  She says that a dentist will spend a lot of money on new equipment in hopes of attracting new patients, but not on marketing or on a business consultant.  It is important for dentists to ask for help sooner rather than later and that if a dentist has issues, "bring someone in to correct them," Cynthia says.

Use a Consultant to Build Your Dental Practice, with Dr. Mark Levy and Cynthia Levy, Dental Sleep Today, Gahana and Columbus, Ohio

Dr. Mark Levy and his wife Cynthia started training dentists on sleep breathing disorders a few years ago and since then, have founded Dental Sleep Today, in Gahana and Columbus, Ohio, serving as consultants to dentists in the area of sleep breathing disorders.

What makes Dental Sleep Today different is that both Dr. Levy and Cynthia go into the dentist's office, train everyone in the office and get all staff members involved.  By doing so, the dental office saves money on travel expenses and days out of the office but most importantly, Dr. Levy says that by day two, patients are being treated.  During their visit, they run the dental staff through the beginning of paperwork, through the patient's consultation, all the way through treatment.

Patients coming in for obstructive sleep apnea treatment can be sought after in a few different ways.  Cynthia says that dentists can find patients through their own patient base, as when an oral exam is performed, dentists know for which clinical signs to look.  External marketing is also another way to bring in new patients, whether it's through an enhanced website, radio or print advertising.  Lastly, Dr. Levy says that sleep physicians and sleep clinics serve as another referral source and while a sleep physician may not turn over a patient completely, they'd be thrilled to have their patients treated with an oral sleep appliance, thereby maintaining them as a patient.

There is a good return on investment because "we treat actual patients," says Cynthia, and "we do allow you to have some revenue coming in to cover the cost of the consult."  By motivating the entire staff to make sure everyone is involved and protocols are in place when they leave, Dr. Levy and Cynthia says dentists can immediately and successfully start treating patients and most importantly, start getting paid for services.
